PAWS – Protection of Animal Welfare Society

Dear Animal Lover,

As you know, the situation for stray dogs and cats in Mauritius is desperate. Every day, unwanted puppies and kittens are born, and if not already on the street, soon find themselves there. To survive, these strays have to live by their wits. The suffering of strays in Mauritius is indescribable – all that is left to them is a vicious circle of rejection, starvation, injury and illness. Those that survive will have litters themselves, bringing more unwanted animals to the islands, to fend for themselves and fight for survival.

Animal lovers, we beseech you. This is a call to action!

It is true that PWAS has up till now, made great strides with our sterilization and outreach programs. We’ve saved the lives of thousands of animals who lived in misery and sickness. This has all been made possible thanks to our sponsors, all the animal lovers who made many donations over the years and all our wonderful volunteers who have given their time, skills and energy to help animals in distress.

However, our two main sponsors, the Government and Laureate Trust currently base their sponsorship on sterilization numbers alone, and has three of our vets recently left sooner than expected, sterilization figures have dropped from 1 000 sterilizations a month to only 250, meaning a drastic drastic drop in our income!

We desperately need your help to get ourselves back on our feet and take up the great challenge of making this island a paradise for animals. We need funds to repair one of our mobile clinics which is simply worn out! We need to employ more vets to give our beloved furry friends the medical care they need and deserve. We need to get our sterilization numbers up again to secure more sponsorship and ensure the future of our important work of assisting sickly animals and animals in distress.Things may look grim, however we at PAWS are ready to take up this challenge with gusto, this is a call to arms! For if we do not do something, the first to suffer will be the animals. With this aim in mind we call upon you, animal lovers, friends of PAWS, to join with us once again, to support us.
